Default Booster rod question

Hi guys, I tried searching but couldnt come up with anything, feel free to post links to an answer.

I'm trying to get a new brake booster for my 76. Being the idiot I am, I ordered a cardone master and booster from summit. I thought if I ordered it from summit they'd have the right part, totally wrong. Just like everyone else that bought a cardone booster posted, the rod that connects the pedal is way too short.

I read a few posts about people using a barrel nut to make it adjustable but I dont think thats the best idea as far as safety goes. I emailed summit and they told me that it will need to be "modified" to fit, I want to tell them to pound sand. I ordered another booster, "delco style" whatever that means, from ebay but if there is a safe way to use the one thats in there now (the cardone, I didnt take it out yet, 3 hrs to get it in there) I would be open to suggestions.

What have you guys done to fix this? I'm open for just about anything as long as it doesnt involve buying the ridiculous priced gm part. I'm not really interested in waiting two weeks to send my old one out to get rebuilt either.

Is it possible to swap the rod from my stock booster over to the new one?

Thanks for the help guys.

Many of us had the same issues. The best fix that I found was to get a clevis that was a half inch longer from an aftermarket company, I cant recall who at this moment but perhaps others will know where to get it. There was talk of creating a sticky on this when I was doing mine. Perhaps a search might turn up where to get one. With the longer clevis it worked perfectly.

Just go to an auto parts store and order a booster pin (I'm assuming that you mean the pin between booster and M/C) that is longer than you need. Then, cut it to the right length and use a bench grinder to round off the end. Done...

Ah, I'm trying to find a website that sells a longer clevis pic but no luck so far.

I'm referring to the rod that connects the brake booster through the firewall to the pedal. It seems to be a common problem being that there are two different boosters available. Funny how none of the boosters I looked at specified either short or long booster... frustrating...

If I come up with anything I'll be sure to post it up here for anyone that comes across this post.
