73 Quadrajet Problem
Car will be running fine and for no reason start to bogg down under load. It will continue to run real sluggish. When it is in this choked state, the car runs relatively smooth, just no power and you can feel it fluttering. Then it will backfire through the carb and clear itself out.
I can't make it backfire, it just comes and goes as it pleases. While it was happening I pulled over and the choke was open. I believe it has a stove pipe choke mechanism which seems to be operational.
Rebuilt 350 with quadrajet has about 2000 miles on rebuild. Car has been completely gone over; timed and tuned.
My mechanic had the car in the fall and never experienced this problem. I drove it in colder weather with no issue. But today, 72 degrees outside, it happened. Years ago before I stored the car, the same would happen. Also the car will flood on start up real easy once it is warmed up.
The carb is very black on the inside.
I appreciate any insight.
Thanks.
