68 427 engine block code

68 427 engine block code

I am looking at a yellow 68. Its a 427 and has the short block code CE 460831. Any idea of what this means? Many thanks

CE, replacement engine

That's a warranty replacement motor. CE means Chevrolet Engine and is not the original engine to the car.

The 4 following CE usually indicates that it was built in 1974.

Would a 74 block be dealer or over the counter?
They gave 5 and 50 didn't they?

I've got a matching #'s ' 69 427 Daytona Yellow- if you are looking for a matching #'s, yellow car. Nothing wrong with a replacement engine, it just hurts the value a little. Mine is in the for sale section. Don't mean to "hijack" your thread.

CE were 'over the counter at the dealer' crate engines, so same difference.

Note that there's never any guarantee that a Corvette with a CE engine is a case of direct warranty replacement done at a dealer. The engine could be a low HP crate engine that spent three decades under the hood of a taxi or grannie's station wagon.
