Default 1972 Mystery Wire

Can someone please help me identify what this wire is for? See attached pictures. It is the one in the 1st picture that I have put into a circle. It is Tan/Lt brown and comes through the firewall just under the wiper motor and is approximately 24 inches long. It is a female connection and I cannot any connectors that it should go to. Everything on the car works except for the horn and alarm system.
Thanks

Maybe that wire goes to the idle stop solenoid on the carburetor?

It is the line to the idle stop solenoid. It should have 12v whenever the ignition is on.

You are lucky, most of the time Bubba has cleaned up the engine bay, and cut the wire down by the firewall.

If you still have the emission data sticker by the drivers side firewall, it tell you have to set the idle steed with the solenoid.

I believe you are correct, however, the reason I could not find a place for the wire is because the idle stop is missing. I have a LT-1 with a Holly. The car runs fine and idles without any problems. Is that something I should be concerned about? Do I need to buy the solenoid and install it?

Thanks
Richard

I think the idle stop solenoid is so the engine will not have run on after the car is turned off

I don't use the tan wire. I have the solenoid wired to my a/c compressor to bump up the idle when the compressor is engaged.

If my car wants to run on, I let the clutch out.

I wish I had that wire, I would use it to feed my electric choke coil on my Holly 4160. Still looking for a convenient 12vdc ignition wire for it.

It doesn't work real well since the solenoid is not designed to actually move the linkage. You have to help it by blipping the throttle. Hard to get it to hold anything less than 1400 rpm too.
