Default Planning to remove my inserts from the exhaust - any tips?

Tonight I want to remove my inserts from the exhaust. They are point welded into the collector... I don't have any welding equipment - so I wonder how I can remove them?? I was thinking in using a hammer and a screwdriver to break them lose (where they are welded) or does this sound like a "Bubba" idea???

I removed my pipes an tried to mentioned technique but it didn't work.. I put the pipes back on. I will have to get the inserts removed by a shop... I will take off the pipes myself and only ask them to remove the inserts.. This shouldn't cost me more than $40 - $50...

Olivier,

Do you have a Dremel? That might be a good way to grind off the weld spots if they are not too far inside. Probably save you from the shop charges too, if you don't have one they are fairly cheap.

I actually did that already... I removed most of the weld spots but I still can't get the insert out... I used up the whole grinding stone already  ... I will get another grinding stone and try to finish tomorrow...

Cool! What are you going to do now, open pipes or STS baffles?

I will stay with my open pipes for a while and later get some STS baffles... At them moment - my main concern is adding power. Any type of mufflers reduces HP - even the STS baffles... However - I'm planning some out of state trips in the future and I might get into trouble running open pipes outside of Florida... I have driven over 20k miles in Florida with open pipes and haven't got a single ticket!!!

I did a test drive today without the inserts and the car stopped smoking black under heavy acceleration... Could it be that I'm running leaner without the inserts????
