My 1979 is not starting, I did have it running a week ago. Getting spark, so I checked the fuel system. Manual says disconnect fuel line from carb and catch the fuel in a suitable container (I used a 2 liter bottle).
I cranked the car for a couple of seconds and a pathetic little squirt drooled into the Sprite bottle with each stroke of the pump.
Now, I know it could be the filter that is clogged (I will check it next), but how much fuel can I expect with each pump?
How was it running last week? When you drove it, did it have any performance issues when it was under load?
If the battery is strong and the starter is spinning the motor at the normal starting speed, removing the fuel line can make a mess in a coffee can quick.
Are you able to start and drive the car with the help of a shot or two of starting fluid?
There should be a strainer in the tank like this one .
She fired right up with the Starter Fluid, then stalled.
Another shot of Starter Fluid, it starts and keeps running.
Take it for a spin and runs fine.
I am still concerned about the low-flow going into the carb. I will check the in-line filter that is attached, it is an AC GF61 fuel filter, then I will check the gas tank filter (strainer).
QUESTION: Is there a check valve in the pump the might allow the fuel to siphon back to the tank?
Have you performed any other related or unrelated work recently? Sometimes that is critical information left out in OP posts... Lol. Just sayin.
The only thing I know of that might be connected is the fuel vapor canister which feeds pressure/excess fuel back to the tank... Many times they are disconnected... Is your fuel cap vented or not? When you open the gas cap does it hiss like it was under pressure?
