Have a ticking noise from the engine compartment. Ticking comes under load and disappears when the engine goes down at low rpm.
What's wrong, exhaust leaks, worn camshaft ...? Has recently changed camshaft due to poor oil and wear.
Many here on the forum recommend synthetic oil in generation 1 engines, the mechanic who changed the camshaft said there must be oil with zinc. What is most correct?

Ticking could be a few things. Best case is an exhaust leak. It could also be lifters/valves. At a low rpm you would still hear valve tick albeit quieter than with a load. Exhaust tick almost disappears at idle and presents itself when rpm increases.
Probably exhaust leak at the manifold to head or manifold to pipe connection.
You can get both synthetic oil and 1000 ppm of zinc. Mobil 1 0W-40 is one example.
Hoping for exhaust leaks.
You mean Mobile1 0E-40 contains zinc? Read product description but nothing about zinc (from experience, it may be a difference between the "same" oil between the U.S. and Europe).

Yes the M1 0W-40 european formula has the required zinc. it is also a true synthetic not a organic base stock oil.
I lived with a ticking noise under load (above 2000rpm) that faded once I dropped into OD (700R4).
Upon dis-assembly, I found worn guides and recessed valve seats.
I thought it was loose rockers (adjusted multiple times), wrong length pushrods (replaced) exhaust leak (replaced manifold and collector gaskets), and even went as far as to replace intake gaskets (leak).
Engine is QUIET now. Took a full cylinder head refresh. Now, I just have oil consumption issue. But, I get to replace parts and work my way down the list. If it were my only transport, I'd be upset. But, it has been the 'toy' for 17 years and hope to make it another 17 years

It can be very hard to find the source of the noise.
I had similar ticking under the hood which turned out to be the speedo cable.
