That's not too much, Qjets are 750 btw, but you need vacuum secondaries to eliminate idle to WOT hesitation. If you want to get into the 12s, the easiest way to do it is to launch as quick as possible. As for your intake, the RPM Air Gap is the one you will need.

Some like smaller carbs, but I have never had anything but a 750 on all my motors. I had a 327 when I was a teen and mounted a 750 double pumper and you could feel the difference. I think 750 is fine just be sure it is jetted correctly. Too large and you will foul the plugs out weekly. Just like BK stated is right for the Qjet. I always used Holley or Demon.

I had to add an Edelbrock heat insulator gasket between my Edelbrock EPS carb and Edelbrock 1406 carb. It was hard to start after it was hot , and this solved the problem. It is something to consider when choosing between the Air /gap and the EPS. The gasket is .320" thick.

I'm pretty sure mine does NOT have vacuum secondaries.. Anything I can do besides buy a new carb?

Whats the complete set up from the manifold to the rear gears? If it's to big its would just be slightly and that would also depend what carb. The quadrajet that came on my 180 horse l48 is a 750 cfm vaccum secondary and wasn't to big by any means.

Carb - Edelbrock 1407 750cfm
Manifold - (Now: Torquer II, Soon: RPM Air Gap)
Exhaust - Hedman headers, 18" glasspacks, 2.5" true duals
Driveline - TH400 with shift kit, 3.08 or 3.36 gears (have to check)
Heads - World S/R (either 67cc or 76cc, again, not sure unless I pull one off)
Cam, pistons, crank - ???

Anything else let me know and I'll tell you what I can.

I love that intake. I have been pondering getting one for my 78. I may just bite the bullet. Black also runs cooler.

If your buying a new carb I'd go 600/650 cfm, for about the same set up I ran a 600 cfm vacuum secondary it ran good. If you were planning on building bigger engine in the not so distant future or If you've already got the 750 cfm I wouldn't hesitate to run it at all.

I am usually on the C4 forum and have an intake question. Its not a vette, but a 1986 Monte Carlo SS. Its still a cool car anyway for my gearhead daughter.

I am doing a cam upgrade and running a Q-Jet that I love and know how to make them work.
I am running a stock 80's aluminum Q-Jet intake off the original HO 305. It makes plenty of low end torque, but I think I can do better.

I have been looking at the Edelbrock Performer RPM Q-jet intake as its advertised RPM is 1500 to 6500. Hood clearance is not an issue, and I plan on staying with the Q-Jet. Have any of you tried this particular intake or could recommend others for a Q-Jet?

The car has long give up its original HO 305 and computer carb and distributor. I bought a new GM 350 block, added a steel crank with TRW flat tops and steel rods. World Products Torquer 2.02 heads with Bee-hive springs and a small R/V cam and hooker super comp headers. Art Carr 200R4 transmission, 2000 stall and the factory 373 posi. It ran well for a car for my Daughter. She is off at school and I got the car back.
I show the car some and can't handle the "stock" idle and have installed a Comp XE 268 roller cam to wake it up., and while its still apart am considering a different intake. It actually had more usable power than the rear tires can handle in its previous state.

I know some of the C3 vette guys run a Q-Jet carb and I am looking what works for you.
Thanks.
