Default Intake Manifold questions

I am looking at 2 intake manifolds - Edelbrock Performer EPS Intake Manifolds 27033, and Edelbrock Performer RPM Air-Gap Intake Manifolds 75013. My question it two-fold.

Does anyone know if I will have any fitment issues under the hood?

If I get a 2000k stall, should I get an intake that focus's on the 1500-6500rpm range?

Currently I have an Edelbrock Torquer II, which isn't making any low end power. I am also going to be doing a cam swap in the near future as well.

More details - 600cfm Edelbrock carb, World S/R Torquer Iron Heads, HEI, and the rest is a mystery. TH400 trans with stock stall and (I believe) 3.08 gears.

the EPS is good for 5,500 max and will fit but for the Air Gap you will have to look at the specs on the Edelbrock site, they show the height of the manifold, or use the advanced search on this site to find others who have installed the Air Gap. I used an L-88 hood to fit it.

If you use a drop base air cleaner, either manifold will work with the stock hood. I have a 3'' tall open element filter with 2" dropped base on a Qjet with an Edel. RPM Air Gap under my 77 hood.
You do want an intake that starts to work at low rpm.

I was wanting to get the Air Gap intake but was curious about this as well, what air cleaner did you get? I also have the Qjet carb. Sorry for jacking the thread but this may help both of us...

My air cleaner is some cheap generic thing that I got at the local parts store. Three things to look for - 14" dia., 2" drop base and 5 1/8" dia carb throat dia. Put in a 3" tall element and you're good. I'm not sure about the OP's carb, but on some Holleys with vac secondaries, the vac dashpot might interfere with the dropped base.

I had the AirGap RPM with a Demon carb and a low profile Holley oval air cleaner on my 75 and had a spacer. I had no fitment issues with the hood. Everybody kept saying it wouldn't work, but mine was living proof it did work. I would suggest getting a better fuel pump. That's just me though. Starter I had to go with the mini starter for heat issues from the headers. That's my 2 cents. Good luck.

Actually the 1.5" drop will be enough. In my case I also have a 3/4" thick adapter under the carb and it still fits, but very tight. I use a regular nut instead of a wingnut and I have solid steel motor mounts to keep the engine from lifting. As for your cam, why don't you start another thread on that.

Thanks all! I THINK my hood is just slightly taller than stock so I'm going to go with the air gap intake. Thanks again for chiming in and helping!

"Thanks BK" is good news to hear?

Anyway, you can try to figure out what will fit all you want, but in the end, you just have to plunk down your money and see if it works. Good luck, and let us know how it works out, OK?

Scott

Your corvette TH400 comes stock with a 2000 stall convertor.

So since I'm going to be getting a 2500 stall, should I get the intake that performs idle-5500 rpm or 1500-6500 rpm?

Mine had 3000 stall and the RPM AirGap was the idle to 5500 rpm. It had good crisp torque on the lower end. I also had a 76 that I built and had a factory 4 speed and I installed a Team G single plane 3000-8200. It was sluggish unless your foot was in it.

Mine definitely hesitates off the line now. Once I'm moving and around 2500+ you can feel it start to make power.
