Well I've only had this steering box since February and have to send it in for repair as it has a dead spot in the steering when turning left.This made my heart jump while driving as it felt at first the car was not going to turn left in the middle of a curvy road.Hey I get it anything mechanical can break but just not looking forward to the whole process of removal,shipping and install . On a good note Borgeson said they will get it back to me once received in 24-36 hours.Fingers crossed!

Just an update, Borgeson replaced the main shaft on my steering box and got it back to me very quick. The repaired unit is working perfectly. I don't have many miles on it yet (under 100) but all seems well. If this status changes I will update again.
I have 20K miles on my Borgeson unit;
No leaks.
12:1 steering.
Great for driving...
I have two round trips from Syracuse to San Diego, this year I went up Pikes Peak. I had no steering issues, no brake issues, but no gaurd rails! That was an issue!
Other than the described issue, what is your opinion of the steering box? Thinking of this upgrade in the near future.
I did one over the winter and so far am loving it. Changed to whole feel of the car. Only issue I had was getting the 3-4 dregs caster they recommend. Could get 2.5 max which still did the job.

The steering box fit well and allows for a great "feel" for the road.Other than having to pull it out for repairs it is well worth it. I think this is a must do mod for C3's.
I have had a Borgeson box for over 3 years. I use the 1977 as a daily driver in the Summer. About 5K miles a year. It has always had a very light feel to it. I have 255/50/17 tires and close to 5 degrees of caster with slotted control arms. Only after researching the daylights out of this issue do I pose this question. Has anyone changed the torsion bar/spool valve in their Borgeson box to increase road feel?
I understand that the pump orifice is sized to provide adequate flow during evasive steering, and the relief valve shims only affect maximum pressure when up against the steering stops, so tinkering with these is not the answer.
It appears the Grand Cherokee box has a .200 torsion bar which should provide 20-30 inch lbs. of steering resistance. Moving up to a .210 T-bar is supposed to provide a resistance in the neighborhood of 34 inch lbs.
I am looking for someone who has done this, knows where to get the bar/valve, or has an exploded view. I know the rebuilders provide this service but I already put good money into the Borgeson box and would like to make the change myself.

Have you talked to borgeson. I assume you are talking about changing the internals of the box?
I did the change 6 months ago and love the way it feels on the highway. The only thing I found is the whining from the pump when cold and slow turning, other wise I like it.
I originally was thinking to install a flaming river R&P but I saw that there was going to be a problems clearing the Hooker side pipes. The Borgeson install did not need any header mods to install.
