Can anyone recommend ,some good quality speakers for the dash of a 74 Vette. Last owner put in a Kenwood radio, but I believe , haven't remove old ones. Are the original, not much power. Thanks for any reply. :-)

The original speakers were 10-ohms. Current amps/radios are matched to 4-ohm speakers. The impedance is too high on the original and you'll never get any decent volume.
I too changed out to a current Kenwood, but I also got new speakers to match. The hole pattern match, but the issue is that the new speakers have a tweeter in the middle. So the "X" member where the speaker mounts needs to be cut out.
See the attached photos. (Sorry the last one is sideways, a Forum glitch.)

try this site if you want to maintain the originality of the car. They do offer upgraded speakers and even upgraded radios in the original package.
Thanks for the link. Query: They caution not to use modern 4 ohm speakers with the original radio due to possible damage to the radio, "A 4 ohm speaker will draw twice the current of an 8 ohm and cause the amplifier transistor ... to run very hot". Does anyone have any experience with this issue. I was planning on using 4 ohm speakers. Should I reconsider? Thanks for any advice.
I used some Pioneer 4x6's, (no pic, sorry), and they mounted up fine. I also found some sacrificial kick panels for $30 that I put these Kicker 6.5"s in.. I have a set of 6x9's in the back, and it actually sounds pretty good! Loud enough to rock out on the highway with the tops off!
