I have an intake off a 68 z28 I'd loan you.....shorter than an rpm....
It's for my 383 build....which is stalled with the move and garage construction. I'll probably try the factory 63 intake first anyway.

What is it? Spread bore?

I'm running a ZZ4 intake right now, which is similar to the Edelbrock 2101. Supposedly "as good as an LT-1 intake, but 1/2" shorter!"

The edelbrock performer 2101 is VERY similar to the stock aluminum L-82 intake which is what is on my L-82 355 at the moment. Have to get it on chassis dyno first before I decide if I need any changes but I will definitely be looking at LTH's first or different shorties. Builder swears that the L-82 intake is pretty good below 5,000 RPM and changing intakes will not have a big impact. I must admit it pulls hard now all the way to 6K, smooth and fast....I am not in any hurry to change intakes.I would bet that a ported L-82 intake would be more than a match for the edelbrocks..I may go that route to retain the L-82 intake.

Been a while now. Any full throttle runs? Is it as expected? Sounds like a big block, real bassy sound.

Set my rev limiter for 6200 about a month ago and started working on approaching it carefully. Power starts to drop off at 5700 so I figured aiming for 6 was best, and added 200 RPM for cushion.

I've never pulled that high with this car before so it's taken a lot of training to get used to driving 1500 past the "yellow line" on the tach, but it definitely pulls great all the way.

I've had the car down for a little bit because I'm switching over to the 78L82-81 dual snorkel setup. Waiting for the cleaner to come back from the powder coaters. May have to re-do some A/C lines.

The car is better in every aspect. I do wonder about switching to a Performer RPM Q-Jet at some point, but then I'd have to go with a high-rise hood if I want to stick with the air cleaner I have now.

I sent a spare Q-Jet off to Cliff Ruggles to have it replated, and will be assembling it with pretty much the same recipe as the one on there has, but much prettier to match all the other pretty new stuff.

I'm also keeping my ears to the ground for a dyno day around here... but may spend some time doing chassis dyno tuning instead, then I'll get the RWHP numbers people like to see. Also need to have new cats installed and I'll see about running it on the smog sniffer, but that's low priority for now.

Everyone who's ridden in it thinks it's pretty scary. Uncle says it's faster than his low 12sec fairlane according to the "butt dyno".

Sounds like a real winner. Way to go, Steve!!

Shark Racer,

The engine seems to run great!! Congratulations!

I have a go pro that I am going to try and see if I can get a video of L-82 355 with the AFR 180 heads, 10.2:1 compression, and Howards Roller cam .525/.525, LSA 110, Duration 219/225 this weekend too. I have about 650-700 miles on the engine and clutch now too. My engine continues to run flawlessly as well pulling very hard 2,000-5,000 RPM and I back off at 6,000 RPM with the engine still pulling hard-mine lifts the nose of the car too a lot with the 4 speed and 3.70 gears. I have not noticed any drop off in power at the upper RPM ranges and that is with shorty headers and L-82 intake. One difference though is the sound of my 355 with duals and Monza turbos-it sounds like a NASCAR stocker at full song-it is pretty mean. I'll try and work on the video this weekend.
