Default Borgeson power steering pump?

Anyone ever use a Borgeson power steering pump? I installed there gear box and used a rebuild pump from the local auto parts store but the pump is not working. From Summit racing the Borgeson pump is $158 and it is quick to get. Anyone ever used there pump, any issues that I should know of?

What do you mean the pump is not working. Is it leaking, or not pushing fluid????

There is no power steering. The pump only took a small amount of fluid, just what it took to initially fill it. Also it is making a noise and I did have the front wheels off the ground with the engine running and turned the wheels lock to lock about 50 times and no power steering.
My hope is it’s the Orileys rebuilt pump and not the new gear box.

Is the pump full of fluid? You have to full the pump a few times, the Borg box will take a lot of the fluid up.

So I drove it in the street in front of the house turning the wheels a lot. A few times I felt a bit of assist than it went away. I re checked the fluid and it dropped about 2 in. refilled it and drove it in font of the house and ran out of gas.....but rechecked and no level drop. Is there hope or what. Never had a pump act like this.

Are you running the borg box or factory setup? Any chance you mixed up the pressure and return?

I have a Borgeson pump and it works well. I already had other saginaw style pumps, but you will see the quality is a bit better. Where other pumps come without the bolts and you have to use your old ones, there are good solid bolts already in the new Borgeson pump. After one year of use no issues so far.

Default Borgeson = Quality

G'day,

I distribute (and sell) Borgeson products in Australia and have NEVER had a problem with the pumps. Borgeson remanufactures the pumps they sell and provide a warranty. You should have no concerns about buying a Borgeson pump, if for no other reason, there is someone at the end of the phone line to help you SHOULD there be a problem.

With my '74 coupe, I used the pump that was on the engine when I removed the leaky control valve and ram and fitted a Borgeson box. I have since fitted a Hydroboost and did some re-plumbing of lines, but still that 40 year old pump is working just fine.

If you pull the pump out, I will offer you a tip. The factory return line nipple points down at about the 4 o'clock position when viewed from the rear so as to line up with the return line coming from the control valve. When you fit the Borgeson box, the return line comes down from the upper left.

What I did was heat up the solder that secures the nipple and turn it about 180 degrees so that it points up at about 10 o'clock. Then it points towards the return line that will need to be shortened by several inches. This makes it a lot easier to fit the return line and avoids having it turn around in a 180 degree loop.

I hope this helps.

Regards from Down Under.

Thank you all for the information. I spoke to summit as they had the lowest price but the tech guy told me that the Borgeson pump has a key way and a nut to attach the pulley and that the 77-79 corvette needed a press fit pump.

I do have the borg box with there lines with the ends crimped on. The fittings are different sizes so they only go one way. I hope the hoses were assembled by borgeson correctly.

Well then you will need a new pulley that fits on that pump.
I bought the matching double-pulley for the pump also from summit.
