Well i have put on about 1,100 mile on my engine since the rebuild and have enjoyed my new clutch i put in when the engine went in. I put in a Centerforce II, recomended by the forum, and let it break in 500 city miles. I have only got on it a hand full of times with about 4500 shifts and the clutch has not been dumped at all off the line. I have been very easy on my new engine and clutch Well a couple a nights ago I took the car to a family reunion about a hour away, shortly before i got there i heard a noise like metal hitting metal realy hard. The next day i heard it agin and then the clutch started to shake alot and felt mushy. Any Ideas what happened. I don't want to drive it untill i get her totaly fixed. And i realy was starting to like that clutch :( :chevy
Well I don't know how centerforce clutches work but that sounds like one of thoses little springs on the disk just broke. It happened to my father once, and when we took it off, that was the problem. Well now, it can also be the through out bearing but
Paul
I don't know the exact cause, but I had something similar happen with my old clutch. Mine made the noise when the clutch was engaged. I got under the car and looked in the bellhousing, and the problem was that the clutch fork was hitting the pressure plate or clutch fingers....didn't want to get too close and catch a sliver. I swapped my clutch and trans (and clutch fork), and I no longer have the problem. I wish I could help more, but I didn't actually fix the original problem. I think my old one was actually adjusted so the clutch fingers were over center. Good luck.
how could you see inside the bell houseing to see your clutch fingers on the pressure plate... i think i am going to pull the trans and clutch tomorrow... i got a video on how to rebuild muncies.... so i may as well do that while it is out .. the video is called "Muncie Basics"... from 5speeds.com.... anyone tryed to do this them selves before??
