i think (and i hope somebody agrees with me) -- keep your vette stock looking...why ruin an already beautiful thing? it's your car though, do whatever makes you happy...i love stock looking vettes though, do whatever makes you happy!
If they just add some more style to them I would like them. I like the idea for safty when all 4 light up with good visablity. Louver covers over them would do the trick. :yesnod:
Okay, I've got them on my car. I've had them on for about 7 years, and am currently in the process of puting them back to original. My pic shows what they look like. I didn't have any problems with the law about not having any backup lights. I think you wont' have any problems. Give it a try.
The kit for older c-3s includes stuff I did not need for my 73. My tailights where in rough shape so I thought I woulld try the $25 lights as opposed to the $200+ for new originals. You can probably find orig at a swap meet but I hate going to things like even if it saves me a few $. I think my time is worth more than a few $ and I would rather spend it driving my vette instead of looking for parts and savings $20.
I kinda miss old grumpy George myself, he could be very entertaining at times. Who knows he may lurking among us posing as a 28 year old blonde who lived in Wisconsin and now resides in Florida. :jester
So do you think that the $80 set of bubba lights in Eckler's and Corvette Central include the housing and everything so that the originals do not need to be cut up? I'm assuming that's the case because the Eckler's description says "No permanent modifications." I hope that's the case.
I am not sure what the diff is between your tail lights and mine that requires the kit so I can;t really say. But I can say that ZIP offers the same kit for $79 and if you ordered it through the forum website you get a discount. Part # X-239. I think it does not get you the 4 tail light system that frodaddy's thread discribes you have to follow his instruction to get them all working together. I am thinking of doing it also.
Thanks April! When I first saw those bubble lights on the late model Shark, I had mixed feelings, but the more I park my '81 next to the '69s and all the other early model Sharks, the more I realized that the '81 bumper is just too plain.
I want to try out the bubble lights, and be able to scrap them if I don't like the way they look. They look great on your '76!! :yesnod:

I just bought and installed the Ecklers bubble lights and they needed to modification. The only thing I needed to buy was shorter screws as the bubbles sit further in than the originals.
Like gdh said, they look cool. :D Especially at night. :yesnod:
Superfast - If you're considering two screws as the extent of modifications, I think you just sold me on it. What's $80? No big deal. If I don't like 'em, I'll throw the originals back on. Thanks Bud!!
Aalsmo. You are correct. This shows what is included in the ~$80.00 kit: lenses, white plastic reflectors, sockets, bulbs and gaskets. Not shown is the flasher relay, also included.
*Edit*-Just a few more comments. I do not recall the years but for 1978-82 at least you have one-piece light "assemblies" not just lenses. I call them pots. My back-up pots are seen below. Some years just took a lens and that may account for the differences in prices for various kits. Secondly, on the red area of one pot you will see nylon spacers. There are three per pot. These fit between the pot (or the bubble white plastic reflector) and the rear bumper surface, a four-sided square friction/push fit into the bumper. They space the pot when the screws are tightened up. These have to be cut about 1/4" to get the bubble reflectors well back into the bumper. Otherwise the bubble reflectors and lenses stick too far out. When I went back to a stock four brake/tail light system I had to purchase new spacers as the old were too short. Just a tip....
