Are the push rod ends on a 73 L82 350 both the same top and bottom?
I'm in the process of doing valve seals and storing the push rods/rockers in order. Wondered if I need to be sure which is top or bottom of the push rod as well.
Also, anyone use umbrella seals on these valves?...I can go original O-ring, umbrella or both?
74 L48, both push rods ends the same, nice to keep them as they were if you can. I just did O rings on mine and fixed the problem. (smoke puff on startup).
They WERE the same when they were new. Now, they have wear at both ends...from contact with their respective part 'mates'.
If your question is, "When new, can I turn them either way during installation?", then, that answer is "Yes".
If your question is "I have disassembled my engine's heads and valve train. Is it OK to reinstall the pushrods in either direction?", then, the better answer is, "No; it is best if they are reinstalled exactly as they were removed."
In a '74 L82 that I had at one time the oil holes had a little larger chamfer at the top end to allow better oiling. I never found that I could order a replacement but they worked well and I never had a wear problem running a medium Crower cam.
