I just picked up two vettes recently. First is a 71' Convertible 454 4spd (99.9% sure its not the original motor, but looks like an 454 car) Second is a 77' L-82 Coupe 3spd. I've decided to get the 77' up and running first because it is in the best condition.
I've changed all the fluids in the car. What else should I do before I get the car on the road? I've heard that all old corvettes should have their brakes replaced. I looked at the calipers and they have a little bit of rust and they seem to be working ok. Should I still replace them?
Lastly,
1. the 71' 454 ...how do I determine what kind of 454(ie. 80s truck motor, etc) is in place and what kind of transmission is mated to it?
2. the 77' L-82 how do i determine which 3spd I have, they had two didn't they?.
If your Vetts have been sitting for a wile I would check the fuel pumps for leaks. They might not leak at first. The rubber in them gets hard just sitting there. Then when you start using it again the rubber starts to brakeup and then starts leaking all over. Just a safety consern I'd keep your eye on it. ;)
Check all your hoses, fuel lines, trans lines, and belts for cracks. Squeeze them to make sure they are not brittle, and will crack/break under a load. Also check all the hose/fuel etc..connections. Once you fire that baby up...creep forward and use the brakes to see if they function properly. Shift the trans a couple times back and forth to check that too before you hit the road. Good luck and..... have fun!!!

Are you saying it has a 3sp manual?
In 77 only 4spd manuals were offered, there was a close ratio and a wide ratio. Also there was the TH-350 automatic
