I have a 77 with 350 and AC. Has anyone installed Hooker blockhugger headers with this combo. I'm concerned with the fit near the evaporator box and the brake booster. Any other unforeseen problems would be appreciated. Looking to install true duels and 2.5" pipes. Jet Hot coating, any comments? Thanks, Bob
I would go with the Dynomax Ceramic Coated units. They are full length. They're specifically designed for a C3. And, they're only $209! Most places want at least $150 just for the coating. I love mine.

BTW- They have great spark plug clearance.
I would agree, I have seen dyno reports that show block huggers are not as efficient as long tube headers
Thanks for the info, will give it consideration. My main reason for switching is for heat control in the cabin and engine compartment, not top end power.
Headers give off more heat than stock manifolds although I hear the ceramic coated ones are pretty close to the manifolds. Header wrap is an option but I don't like the look myself.
Ceramic coating makes a remarkable difference in temp control. A bubby of mine just put some on his 79 (Dynomax) and he says the heat reduction is tremendous. The headers are cool to the touch, 10 minutes after the car is shutdown. (No more heat thru the firewall and floor!, while just setting!)
Thanks Fevre, That's what I thought. I read on the web that header wrap will destroy your headers. I figured that blockhuggers being smaller than full size headers and coated to boot would give off less heat than full size headers or stock manifolds. Stock hold on to the heat for quite a while. Hooker calls them street rod headers, I'm guessing blockhuggers are the same thing. Bob
Thanks Smokehouse, I've heard that too. Anyone out there running street rod(blockhuggers)/coated headers. I'd like to hear from you on this subject. Bob
Many guys hear run header wrap and I think as long as you don't get it wet or drive in the snow and salt with it, the headers will last a while. I have though about shortys and have tried to locate ones that would bolt right to the stock exhaust but have not got a definitive answer yet. I am going the dynomax route since I am going to build a 383 that need the headers to breath right. I believe there is some guys running block huger syle headers and will chime in in do time.
I,m like you, I don't like the look of wrap or fake stainless braid on radiator hoses either. Just my opinion. Shorty's use a collector/reducer setup and should be able to tie to your existing head pipes, cut off the stock donut setup and weld up.
