Default radiator leak

i was going to take my vette to the track tomorrow for the first time since the motor went back in, I went to drain the radiator to put anti-freeze in it. I began to loosen the bolt for the drain, and the elbow that is actually attached to the rad. broke loose adn seems to be leaking from that connection. is this common? can I solder it myself. the rad is copper. how do i fix it? can i fix it? Wisdom please? the piece seems to be a white metal where the crack is any one know?

Default Re: radiator leak (mncus11)

early this spring i broke off the upper hose connector for my rad trying to pull it out for a minor patch. i decided that if the solder joint broke others might be on their last legs too. mine was the original factory rad. decided that a recore was the best option. had the shop recore with one of those high fin per inch cores. its great. i cant get the temp above 190 degrees. it hold 3 gals of coolant. i think the cooling system is one of the most important parts of a vette. besides, i lost my water pump in the middle of the dream cruise in detroit last year. nothing worse than towing a vette. i dont know if you can resolder the connection. i thought about doing it but decided i would never be confident of the repair and would always worry about when it would go.
