Decided to start on the seat covers, removal easy. Install, HARD. Can someone who has done this tell me how to get the tiny clips that hook on to the rail in the seat cover to come thru 4 inches of foam??? Even with the little tool they tell you to fashion this seems impossible. Im pretty sure im doing it the correct way, followed all of the steps?
This is one of those things that everyone should tackle once--you'll think that you've developed some type of crippling arthritis in your hands by the time you're finished. I believe that I finally had to use some small vise grips to be able to pull and hold the wires, and I had to fashion a few new clips--might haver even begged the wife into helping, too.
Take heart! It can be done and you get to say you did it yourself.
i think i still have some pics on my server....hmm lemme see
wanna know the secret?? spend the money and buy the dumb tool they sell to pull those wire clips through!!! it only cost like 8 bux or whatever!!!
and spend the money and buy hog ring pliers!!!! those 2 tools cost mebbe 15 bux together and make the job easy as pie.
Re: Need Seat Cover Install Help... (daily_driver)
oh and i dunno about your hardware kit, but mine didnt have enough clips or rods....
it figures.....!!
had to reuse some of them.
Same here, I tend to think they sell them for one seat and give you a few extras. :) Someone's idea of a cruel joke maybe. By the second seat hubby and I had a system, I pushed on the foam while he pulled the clip, then I pushed down on the seat wire to hook it. It really only took seconds and I was wondering how we struggled with the first one for so long. It's more a finesse than strength thing I think.
Re: Need Seat Cover Install Help... (StingRayPonyGirl)
Come on thats all the advice??? The clips are like a half inch long, and the foam is thick. Thanks for the tries, but I tried again and Im still not getting it? :smash: :smash: :smash:
It does take some patience to get these on but is pretty doable once you learn all of the tricks....did mine myself over the winter, so I have learned them all.
I can give you a hand if needed and I have extra clips which you will need.
Send me an e-mail or call if you still need some help or advise...
I DID IT! One anyway. Doesnt look perfect, but looks pretty good. You guys were all right, hands hurt, hardware set not enough for 2 seats. Second one will be much easier!!! Thanks for the comments.
