I need your help and/or advise on my 80. My battery keeps going dead. Inside the car with both doors closed, removed positive cable and hooked up test light from positive cable and the pointy end inside positive battery terminal. Right away I got a light. I removed the fuse that runs the clock, lighter, horn and power antenna and the light went out. Now what? I did not think there would be so much on one fuse. I thought something else was strange too is that how come when you have the test light hooked up that when you open up the door the interior lights do not come on? Wouldn't the test light hooked up complete the circuit? Thanks. Don
With everything hooked, do the interior lights go off after a delay when you close the doors?
The light delay timer is famous for causing this problem. Its an orange box behind the pass side dash. You can disconnect it and bypass the thing so the lights work off the door switches with no delay. You can also replace it as they are available again, weren't for many years.
Yes, with everything hooked back up the delay switch works like it should. I know nothing about electrical stuff. I did notice that the dome light switch on the RH side door jam, the shaft is really sloppy. At some point too someone must have been playing around with the horn because that doesn't seem right either. I am going to order new parts. But the thing is this fuse controls a lot. Horn, power antenna, cigar lighter, delay switch. Any other ideas?
