Default help with engine ID

As you can tell from the number of posts, I am new to the forum. I have enjoyed reading posts every night and have learned alot from everyone. Now I need your help with finding what engine I have.
I bought a 68 convt. with a big block. I know it is not a matching engine but I am not sure what I have in it. Here are my numbers:
front of block near pulleys: T0508TRL
near fire wall: big letters GM T14 then lower HO 5445 and a P next to them. the fire wall numbers are hard to decipher, the H could be just a box but it is hard to tell. there also is something in between the HO and the 5445 but it does not look like a letter or number. thanks for any help, Keith

According to that link http://www.nastyz28.com/sbchevy/spcode8.html
it is a 175 hp Cab engine.... Small-Block. Isn't yours supposed to be a big-block...?

Well, just a try.

Yes, I am positive that it is a big block. The numbers on the front of the engine are clear as day and I can see them well, it is only the numbers on the back that were tough. thanks for trying. :cry

Kieth; Don't have a clue on the rear #'s you've located. As far as the T0508TRL goes..........

T = Tonawanda assembly plant
05 = Month built (most likely May)
08 = Day of the month built
TRL = Is the engine code that denotes the type of engine.

I'm going to hazard to guess that the "TRL" is a code for a truck motor. All the codes for Corvette B.B. motors with three letter designators (70-74) start with a "C" I.E. CGW, CZU, CZN, Etc.

Of course if anyone knows for sure please call: :bs :nono:

Good Luck

The TRL suffix has been used 4 times, all as truck engines. Usualy if the suffix starts with a "T" it is a truck engine. These 4 uses are:

1973 454ci/240hp automatic
1974 454ci/245hp automatic
1978 454ci/250hp
1981 454ci/210hp
-- All truck applications

The casting date will tell which one you have.

The block casting date will be on the rear passanger side by the bell housing. Will look like "E 12 7". E=month with Jan = a, 12=day of monty, 7=year.
