It did Mooser and I as well. Best we could think is that since it was on one of the bellhousing bolts it was used to keep a wire out of the way.
As I was cleaning the old carb (Edel Perf 750 mech dp) an air bleed fell out. That Edel was always supposed to be a temp sol'n until I rebuilt my Holley. It was a reman'd unit, it was "adequate" in that it was reliable, didn't leak like the 4779, cheap but really gave up a lot of performance to the Holley. I'm looking at the carb schematics and still can't figure out how to get that little bugger back in. Going to have to put 2 sets of glasses on.
I have a fantastic wife, she said to go out and buy a new carb. It will either be a Holley or for some reason that Street Demon has me really intrigued. It is supposed to be the best of the old Thermoquad and Carter. Have recently talked with another C3 owner who put one on his 3k ago and is very happy with its performance, reliability, ease to setup and go right out of the box.
I think I remember something similar on my carb, or it's linkage. I'll go out to the garage in a few and see if I can find it. Mines a Holley so I'm thinking throttle cable related.
Almost looks like some kinda wire harness relief bracket.
I remember the back of the alternators having something like that but they seemed longer and had pieces the bent over the alternator. The odd ball end looks like some kind of plastic clip would lock into that.
I left it off as it just didn't seem to belong in there but it had us stumped. Thanks all, I bet when the person who bolted the bellhousing up he thought it to be a good idea.
Fully disassembled the card last night. All air bleeds are in it so it must have been sitting in there dropped by whoever at Edel did the reman and it fell out when I turned the carb over while cleaning. Will find out for sure when I fire it up this afternoon.

So you did figure it out? I was cruising the Corvette America catalog trying to use a coupon and came across this part which looks similar:
I think you've got it and it makes sense. It did stump us as to why it was on the bellhousing. Installed the MSD mini starter and the new engine started up immediately. I will install the clip in its proper place. Thank-you very much.
