78-82 fuel tank capacity
I have never been able to get more than 16-17 gallons of gas in my tank when the guage said empty and the low fuel light was on. Today I dropped my tank to install a new sock filter before rebuilding my carb. After completely draining and wiping the tank out I measured the tank sending unit to be sure it was going all the way down. Everything looked good. After I reinstalled the tank I put in 5 gallons of gas. The gas gauge still read empty and the low fuel light was still on. I drove a couple of blocks to the gas station and put in 18.1 gallons. So my tank will hold 23.1 gallons. Now I know when the low fuel light is on steady I still have 5 gallons to go.
By the way. 78-82 tanks do NOT have a rubber liner that can collapse like the earlier C3's. It is a hard plastic molded liner that is very ridged.

Thanks!!! That answers all the "mystery" questions I'd been having about my goofy fuel gauge and why I couldn't get more than 15-16 gallons in there! :yesnod:
