My '72 doesn't have power steering or power brakes, so the only experience I can draw on is from a '79 CJ-7 I had quite a few years back. My mechanic replaced the pump 3 times to eliminate a no power problem but it kept coming back. He finally replaced the hoses and the problem disappeared. Maybe it's a hose problem like when the inside of a brake hose breaks down and doesn't allow the fluid pressure to return to normal. Just thinking outside the box. Good luck.

If you are going to use a high flow power steering pump, I would use a finned cooler in the return line to reduce the fluid temperature.

I have a long pump on my motor. With the brackets and locations where I want to mount the PS pump and alternator it was the only choice.

Default picts of KRC p/s pump

Size: 70.9 KB. I needed to have spacers to compensate for the long water pump,{which will be needed for the third belt set up}. I don't know why I can't load more than two picts per post. They are 130.4KB and JPG maxs at 2.86 MB[ computer skills at idiot level]. After blowing the resivor apart OEM, installing a lesser expensive pump and blowing that apart even though LT1 member said the OEM was sufficient, but I don't know any OEM application over 6500RPM red line. I'm chipped at 7400, shift lite at 7200 RPM. T

ok.... do plan on getting a new type pump like terrys6t8roadster very nice!!!!... but will have to find a mount or fab one myself for a short water pump...

Anyway..... i went out and purchased a power steering filter for a Toyota truck.... I figure, although the system has been flushed now like 4 times, the only thing I can still think of that is holding down the pressure regulator is containments in the system....so I installed it... I have had 4 lock-ups since but each having a lesser and lesser effect and time until the unit can open up again... now, for the last 2 days, and about 20 miles she has run perfect... this is the longest time as of yet... I do believe the filter is working... it has both filtering in it as well as magentas for iron...im filtering off the hydroboost but not the rac...

Hey Pauldana, if you look at the the lower left corner of the black P/S pump mounting brkt you'll see the spacers [aluminum] I installed to compensate the long water pump. I believe it's a direct fit for short pumps. T
