I won't go into ALL the Bubba crap I'm finding on my rear end right now but I may have found out why the drivers side TA looks so much better than the passenger side TA. While dimantling my rear end, I go to remove the castle nut on the passenger side lower shock mount/strut rod shaft, and the freak'n nut just spins!!!!!!!! The shaft itself is stationary, but the nut just turns on the shaft. I can't get the nut off, so I can't get the shaft out to remove the struts, etc. I'm thinking Bubba couldn't get it off, so he just let that TA as is.

Re: Need help, stripped strut rod shaft (79MakoL82)
Time to get the Dremel out and grind or cut the nut off. :smash:
In desperation (cause I think you are already there) you can try and pry a screwdriver between the caslte nut and the support to see if you can push the nut back far enough that it will catch a thread. This probably won't work, but sometimes one just gets lucky. :blueangel:
Then its off to the Corvette parts place to order up a new shock mount. :yesnod: :yesnod:
Yeah, I was kinda heading that way. I know the shock mounts trash anyway at this point. I had a pair of vice grips on it and was trying to "pull" it on to the threads as I truned it but that wasn't working. I'll try the screwdriver idea first before I start cutting.
Re: Need help, stripped strut rod shaft (79MakoL82)
Well, I've started the Dremel route and it's slowly working. Only problem is, it's so hot out that the Dremel keeps overheating and shutting off. Every time it shuts off, I have to go have a beer!!! :D

Let me get this right your complaining about the bolt not the beer :D
Every time I work on the Vette it's a 6 pack event. Beer is on my checklist of tools for any vechicle repair.
