There is an old trick of using some sort of abrasive cleanser to rough up the cylinder walls... I seem to remember someone saying a GM rep would pour it down the Carb in a pinch when this sort of thing would happen.... I myself would want to be sure its not the head or gasket though...
I only have about 275 miles on my rebuild and besides a faulty thermostat and leaking power steering pump the engine seems to be doing great.
Its everything else that keeps failing at this point... Something new almost every day I drive it.
I'm down a quart of oil, not surprising for the motor itself plus the probable ring issue. I picked up some 30 weight break in oil with the extra zinc added in. Clearly won't solve the problem but since I'm still under 100 miles it can't really hurt.
