Default Solid Roller Lifter Question

I am considering going this route on my engine build. I know there are durability issues regarding oiling etc. Anyone use them? If so, what is your opinion? I have head they should be changed out every 7000 miles or 150 hours of run time.

Never heard of the 150 hrs run time its been said to ck them 1x a yr. Seen failures in a few thou and others last well over 20k miles, betting some failures are due to old springs, quality of lifter valve float lack of mainenance etc

(Maybe an actual builder that does this every day can pipe in)

latest trend seems to be making them with bushed rollers so it eliminates needle bearings Im liking that.

theres just something about the way a solid roller runs (and sounds ) Im addicted to.

I had a cheap one fail years ago. I went for big buck Crane Pro's in both my engines. .842 or something. The smarter thing is machining the lifter bores to bigger diameter. After market blocks have priority oiling to the cams and mains. I also run spring pressures for sub 7500 rpm motors. Like 205# closed and 500 ish open. Comp cams dual springs 1.56 dia 2 inch installed height and shim to greater than 2..050 to decrease pressure on .750 or .800 max lift springs. Then I use oil weights to have 30ish hot idle and 70ish at over 5000 rpm. I use a combo of 10W-30 and 20W-50 Vav racing oil.

Cheap roller lifter, low oil pressure, high spring weights kill the rollers

I used Isky RedZones in my big block drag car for 3 years and never an issue. I sold the car at that point so I don't know how long they would go. 3 years = about 300 runs.

Isky EZ roll, Crower even Comp Cams are finally jumping on the bushed roller bandwagon that Isky started years ago. Crower will even rebuild their Hippo line of lifters with bushing in them if you ask. One of the smartest engine guys I know has over 40 Midget/Sprint 850-900+HP motors turning around 9000RPM on a weekly basis with bushed lifters in them....he's now a believer in this technology. Just make sure your sitting down when you price them......then when looking at the big picture......think about how many parts are wrecked when a solid roller grenades inside a motor......speed costs money.......how fast do you want to go and for........how long?
