I have an Edelbrock 1406 that seems to be running rich. After warming up, the exhaust will burn your eyes. Tailpipes are carboned up. Things I have checked. 1. Verified stock needles and jets. 2. Correct float height. 3. 15" steady vacuum at idle. 4.Fuel pressure set to 3# psi. 5. Choke working correctly. Open 14x3 air filter. Dual exhaust without cats. Plugs are a nice tan color. I live at a 2300ft. elevation. Carb is supposed to be jetted lean from the factory. Should
I try rejetting leaner? Or, am I trying to fix something that ain't broke? Car runs very well otherwise. Thanks for any thoughts.

I would check the edel instruction booklet and go one or two stages lean with only a rod change if possible and see if that helps. I have a mild 350 with a 1405 carb that runs fine with .095 front and rear jets and .068 x .042 rods. I do strictly street driving with occasional romps up to 5000 rpm. The original factory 1405 setting is 100/095 front and rear with .070 x .047 rods and was too rich for my combo.
What you're describing has the attributes of a lean calibration. High HC results from a lean misfire (or a misfire in general) and is what gives you the watery, burning eyes from the exhaust. A rich condition gives you excess CO, which isn't quite as noticeable and doesn't burn your eyes and also gives you the fluffy deposits on the plugs.
What cam are you running? Fifteen inches Hg indicates around a 268 or so. That or the tuneup is a bit off.
That is a very good point. The 1406 is supposed to be jetted lean. As far as the cam, I don't know. Has a very slight lope. I am going to order a tune-up kit for the carb and see what happens.
