Default Headlamps

Headlamps do not come up.

Anyone got a trouble shooting guide please?

Hi Colin,
The year car you're working on makes a bit of a difference because on the 68-72 cars the headlight door and wiper door systems are interconnected.
Have you gone as far as to check that there's a vacuum supply to the relays, that all the parts and hoses are installed properly, and that you can cycle the doors by hand without interference?
Regards,
Alan

Got back on with this.

This is a much modified car, by a PO in the US. There is no overide switch fitted any more!

I have got the lamps up. There are no vacuum pipes connected at all and they will not go down!

Tried gently pushing but no luck.

The one way valve is failed so a new one is ordered, but I am sure the issues are deeper than that. Maybe mechanical?

Any tips on dismantling??

Colin

Hi c,
The headlight mechanism operates like an 'elbow' joint.
When the lights are up the elbow 'locks' so the lights don't bounce while the car is driven.
Reach your hand up through the opening in the lower valance panel on each side and pull forward and down to release the 'lock'.
DON'T pull on the plastic switch that's also at that point or you'll break the switch.
When that 'elbow' is released the light will swing closed.
It sounds to me like you need to get a complete list of the headlight vacuum parts so you can take a look at what you have and determine what's missing.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

The horizontal 'rod' with the springs attached pulls forward and down.

Thanks guys we are making progress!

Replaced the check valve, and found the overide switch!!

So, engine running, overide down, headlamps come up. Overide up, lamps go down.

Headlamp switch on, lights light up, but do not come up.

So I am assuming the vacuum switch on the headlamp switch is busted??

Is it part of the swich or available as a separate item?

How do I remove the switch??

Ta guys
