Default 82 TB balaning?

I'm in the middle of "trying" to balance my throttle bodies on my 82 and am failing miserably.....I am fowling the instructions but nothing is doing what it's suppose to. Instead of a manometer I'm using a Viot inches of water gauge that measures up to 15" When I hook it up to the center port on the tb it shows nothing. I have the IACs unplugged and have the holes plugged with the IAC tool. The weird thing though is that it's idling great in both park and in drive. What's up with that?? So anyway that's where I'm stuck and can't proceed any further cause honestly never done one of these.

Another thing is that with the IACs unplugged I have no SES light, is that normal? I know it works though.

I will write this....when I am using my manometer.....I can very...and I mean very lightly suck on the hose and see that my gauge moves the dyed water in the tube. IF you can not get your gauge that you are using to do that...then you need to get the correct gauge.

I looked at the Viot gauge...and it is obviously different than my manometer. A manometer is what the Service manual states that is needed.

Thanks DUB the gauge I have seems to be a pressure gauge it only moves when you blow in it. When I bought it, it said it was a manometer so I figured they are all the same. So on the center port on the back of the TB should there be vacuum or pressure? Meaning blowing out? I have a saved article from Corvette Fever that does a complete tune-up on the CFI and they use a gauge for the balancing so I though that would be easier. Now once I get these perfected I'm going to switch to a ported 2" TB but where do you start with a base line. And you probably saw what I said about the IAC, with the ports plugged and the sensors unplugged it idled beautifully and Drawmain suggested they could be bad causing my surging at idle. I was surprised that it stayed running is that normal?

The center port on the rear of the TB's measures vacuum, so it sucks in, not blows out. You need a vacuum manometer.

AS Drawmain stated...this is a vacuum port as you know by know.

One thing that you want to verify...is that your fuel pressure is as high as possible. So NO 9psi readings. DO NOT think that you are OK here. It is worth the time to verify this. Because if you DO NOT...you will eventually WISH you had.

Also...are you planning on putting the larger throttle bodies on??? You may need larger injectors and also a new spring that can allow a bit more fuel pressure. I also just looked a the new manometer that the throttle body company sells on their site...which may be the 'ticket' due to all of the 2" borer throttle bodies I had put on...could NOT be balanced due to the ported vacuum port had been plugged.

See my reply in the General section to the same question.

Buy one of these and use several sized hoses to step down to the tbi inlet hose.

I have 14 psi and once these tbs are sorted out I'll be switching to 2" ones. Are you referring to the DCS website? If so they are now out of business and yes I was waiting on there special manometer as well.
