Its fairly easy to do if You have the complete set up from the donar car. You need the Bell housing, the Duel Mass Clutch, Hydraulic Master and Slave. It can be done with an aftermarket Clutch but the Trans will Rattle in Neutral. ZF Doc . com has a bunch of info on the ZF's.
There are 2 versions of the ZF6, a Black label and a Blue label (trans ID plate color). The Black is stronger & noisier than the Blue and was made from 89-93/94, Blue from 94-96. The only drawback from using one of these is the lack of parts since it's been out of production for so long, and very few people can rebuild one. Unless you got one exceptionally cheap a T56 based trans would be a better swap. There is just more available for a T56, parts, aftermarket shifters, ability to move shifter position, upgraded items, ect.

I did a clutch job on a '91 ZR1 once, long ago.....I can assure you that you will have to modify your trans tunnel as my '72 had to have done on the right side, to clear the trans pan, those ZF's are a bulky bunch, and the shifter is much further back and a super PIA to fab up something to keep from butchering the console trim work, and putting that shifter back where you can barely work it.....
my 200 4r is the best cheapest way to get overdrive.....
the zf6 is a strong trans. yes it's noisy in neutral unless you have the dual mass flywheel. it shifts very easy and is really easy with the hurst shifter. I have a 96 blue tag zf6 trans for sale. $850.00 if anyone wants to try one. https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...eed-trans.html
