I've got a 1980 that I pulled the steering column out of a few years ago to do a bunch of other work. When I replaced it, I got the rag joint 90 degrees off. I put the wheel on straight and lived with the turn signal cancelling cam being out of whack for a few years. Now I'm ready to finally get it right... with some help I hope.
Can the rag joint be taken apart and the wheel rotated without pulling the column back? The way I look at it, it would be easier to take the two bolts out of the steering box and drop that a little to get the clearance to rotate the joint. Any suggestions? It's a tilt/telescope column. Thanks.

You should be able to disconnect the rag joint, loosen (do not remove) the two vertical bolts and loosen the two firewall bolts enough to get the column away from the box. Would help to have a helper.
My vote would be to move the steering box its easier than grovelling under the dash.JMPO Just did the same thing but to replace the top oil seal in the steering box. You should be able to get enough clearance without dropping the pitman arm but couldn't guarantee that.
