Default Valve cover torque spec?

My shop manual has yet to arrived but could somebody tell me what to torque non cork valve covers down to. I bought some Fel Pro gaskets and I thought I should torque them down correctly but not sure. I also had a question on rally wheel paint codes but I found that under tech tips. The torque specs were not indicated on the adjust valves tech tip. They assumed the person would know.
Thank you for answering this and my other question. Soon I won't have to bother you all with such trivial questions.

The manual says 50 INCH pounds. I have always just tightened them snug and never had a problem.

Just do them as tight as possible with a nut-driver and they should be ok. You may have problems if you are using stamped-steel covers without load spreaders.

Check the inner mounting surfaces of both valve covers. If they're already "crimped" around the bolt holes, you'll have to do some metal-smithing to flatten them out. I use Indian head shellac and "glue" the gasket to the valve cover. I make sure it's positioned correctly, holding it in position with tape, and with the bolts through the valve cover holes. I let this assembly dry overnight. Then, I install the covers without any "goo". Tighten the bolts/screws EVER SO LITTLE. You don't want to gorilla them, or you'll bend the valve cover in the screw areas, pinch the gasket, and cause a leak. The nut driver is an excellent idea. BUT, don't overtighten them. Chuck
