I'm in the middle of a 700r4 install. It should be completed next week. Its replacing the factory 79 TH350 thats been behind a new 383 for 2 months. Its a stage 2 from BowTie with a 2400 stall and shift kit. I've read threads where people post how this is the best modification they have done and really praise the upgrade but they dont go into detail. What can I expect the first time I get behind the wheel? Is it really that much a change in the feel of the car? I'm excited to try it out but I dont wanna be let down by expecting too much.
I got the 700r4 kit. I'm having it done at a local shop so I don't know everything thats included. Nobody at BowTie suggested anything extra that was needed or recommended. I hope we have it but I'm not sure.
It helps control how aggressively the tranny shifts at part throttle, I have the same transmission and 1st to 2nd can feel like its trying to give you whiplash it shifts so hard.
'72 336 rear, 350 FI engine I installed a 700 back about 97-98 or so, and it was more or less ok, I did it for the overdrive upon moving to Florida from the Wash DC stop/go traffic.....
and so found out that no matter what, the thing upshifted from 1-2 before I was across an intersection, huge rpm drop....tired of it, so built my own 200 4r and it's a much better fit to the car.....shifts about right, no krazy RPM drops....and I have my lockup/overdrive....
Doing the same on a forum members car now. 383 and a 700R4 in a 79 3.55 geared Vette. I just pulled the motor and trans yesterday so it will be a week or two before it is drive able. I know the owner is looking forward to the added HP and the overdrive trans.
