81 t&t steering
hi everyone, ive been trying to get the t&t column back together on my 81 that I bought with the column already apart. ive taken It apart and back together a couple of times already and I cant get the telescoping lever to turn or lock, then I realized that I needed a locking rod which just came in which I will try next, my main concern is that I don't know if Im installing the wedge the right way since it will slide in either way but im sure there a right way and a wrong way and I don't want to put it all back together again with the locking rod to find out the wedge is upside down, please help

Here is a sectional view of a T&T steering column head. You can see how the rod and wedge go together.
FYI, there were three different length rods depending upon the year of your T&T column. I believe that the 1978-1982 rod was the shortest of the three. My drawing for the 1980-1982 rod scales to 2.95 inches. Hopefully whoever supplied the rod delivered the correct length.
