Trying to figure out the best way to prep and paint the underside of the body. My front clip is not attached, it is just the firewall back. Completely stripped, nothing left (wiring harnesses, accesories, etc. are all removed). It is currently sitting on a wooden cart, built off of Alan's plans.
I've done some of the prep work by jacking up the cart and putting it on jack stands. But, this still has several limitations due to the carts support beams and also jack stand height. I will need to be able to use a spray gun. I originally lifted the body w/ cherry picker, but used large ratchet straps all the way around and under the body. I do not have the support or ability to use any type of overhead hoist.
Maybe the "made for" body lifting straps with the cherry picker, but recall reading several complaints about them being too long and limiting lifting height.
Any suggestions?
Getting a bit rushed by diminishing Ohio temps to get the underside finished.

We bolted a couple of 4x4's across the interior of a friend's body, bolted some vertical 4x4's to those horizontal 4x4's, picked it up and set it on it's side.
Here's an inexpensive way- I realize your body is off...but could use the same principle. The 2x4s are on several sections-just used 12" and 16" long pieces. They slide together and I just shoot a deck screw in to hold the sections together- could use a carriage
bolt...
Richard - that would work, but the cross supports would be in the way. Kind of where I am at now with it on the body cart.
Cardo - Body is off the frame.
The few options I had for a rotisserie have fallen through. My next idea may be to lift the cart from the side beams and remove the one cross support that is in the way. Should give me decent access. Just not to the birdcage rails.

Hi I,
If you make the uprights on my plan taller (36"?) so you can ride under the body on one of those low rolling seats would that be high enough?
You can bolt in the uprights, and then by some careful planning remove and replace them one at a time so every part of the body and birdcage rails is accessible for a period of time.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

Alan - You might be on to something there. I'll look into it while out in the garage tomorrow. Only concern off the top of my head would be the stability of the body sitting on top of extended length 2x3s.
