Boiling sound

When I got out of my vet last night, I heard what sounded like a boiling sound fron under the hood. WHen I opened it up, it sounded like it was coming from the overflow tank. Right before I parked the car, I had stopped to talk to my friend for a bit with the engine running. It has been very hot in the east coast. Did anyone ever hear this or had this happen to them?????? :confused: :chevy

To be safe though, get you radiator cap tested or just replace it. The water in the engine has its boiling point raised by the pressure cap, if the cap opens to soon, the coolant boiling point will be lowered. Coolant will always expand when it gets hot and some will flow into the overflow tank. Once it leaves the pressure though, the boiling point is lower a lot and what was coolant in the engine may become steam in the tank.
