Default Two froblems

Hi
I'm new here, my name is Rani, and I'm from Israel.
I recently bought a 1982 corvette, and I'm having a few problems.
First, when I'm slowing down, and I'm trying to accleret, from time to time the engine shuts off while driving.

One more problem is with the fuel gauge, that is runnig between the full, and half. The minimum is allways half.
Thaks, appreciate your help.
Rani

Welcome aboard and congrats on the new ride.
You may have more than one problem. The fuel gauge problem is most likely a bad sending unit in the tank, they wear out and get stuck, not too expensive or hard to change.
For the engine dieing, ita a little tougher as your dealing with more systems, and you may need to eliminate them one at a time by making sure what it is not. Start with the electrical known problem areas: Battery cable connections, bith the hot and ground sides, step through 1 connection at a time and make sure there are no arching, lose or corroded connections. There is an extension harness from behind the pass side head to the starter, look at it. Fuel system: pump, fuel filter etc...

Might be a good idea to do a balance on the crossfire and set the minimum idle.

1978-1982 cars are notorious for having bladder issues in the tank. The bladder may be interfering with the movement of the float. Or your sending unit may be failing on the lower level readings. (My guess would probably be the bladder in the tank has fuel behind it).

Welcome to the forum.

Hi
If I want to fix the sending unit, do I have to take the gas tank off the car?
Tnx

At the top, sticky section, there is one on 82 crossfire. Take the time to go thru the entire read. There are many links and advice on these tricky vetts.

Mine will die sometimes when turning quick. Last weekend did it to me in an autocross. Fuel gauge is not correct. Mileage has decreased of late. These are some of my round to it projects for this winter.

These are nice when they run right. If you are mechanical know that they are a bit diferent than the carbed models. If you are going to take it to a mech you will need to research his abilities and tools. There are some very good folks on here that know these crossfires inside out.

How bout some pics. Would be nice to see a vett near some historic places.
