Default q-jet question

I have a 77, and I want to change the filter in the q-jet carb. is there a special size wrench for the big nut that holds the filter in? I tried 1-1/16th and it was too small and the 1-1/8th was too big, this cant be metric can it? thanks

The qjets I have worked on (not that many) use a 1" on the filter and a 5/8" on the fuel line.

I always use a crescent wrench on mine. It shouldn't be super tight.

I guess if it was a bit corroded on you might want the right size wrench on the box side of the wrench or a 6 point socket on it to keep from rounding off the hex.

All Q-Jet inlet nuts are 1". If it's bigger than that, it's an aftermarket self-tapping nut or an o-ring type nut that has been installed due to stripped threads in your carb. If your threads are stripped, and one of those Band-Aid nuts has been installed, you may not get it re-assembled and sealed up after you remove it... post a photo of it and I'll tell you if you have a problem.
