Hey guys, got a quick question for anyone who may have came across this situation before. Had the engine rebuilt on the '81 and it's finally coming down to the final stages. With the modifications made to the engine (cam and ecm elimination), I have been told that the original carb is no longer what the engine needs. Looking at a holley 650 but once the adapter plate is added will there be enough clearance for an airfilter? Dont wanna buy a new carb and go through all that trouble just to find out I cannot close my hood. Thanks for any help in advance!
a Holley 4175 SHOULD fit with no adapter plate, stock fuel line and vacuum lines and air cleaner. It will definitely fit with a drop base open element air cleaner

Awesome man, I'll look into that! Thanks for the help!
A quadrabog can handle a good amount of cubes and work flawlessly when set up right. If your carb worked well when you took it off, try it it might work just fine with a few minor adjustments.

It won't work properly without the computer.
Make sure you replace the distributor with a mechanical vacuum advance model, without the stock computer you wont get any advance out of the stock distributor.

That's true about the ECM and distributor but I think the only part on your carb the ECM controls is the idle. You still have an idle set screw and a vacuum port for vac advance.... I use to run an ECM carb on my old truck, I worked good with a regular distributor.

If he wants to run rich all the time and waste fuel, sure go ahead.
some cams work fine with the stock set up also, so he might not even have needed to replace everything to begin with.
I tried to put together a list of some combinations that will work. Might want to look through this thread and see if you can find your answer. Also, once installed...please put your results in the thread.
