Hi bby,
The supply line is 3/8" and the return line is 1/4".
You really do need to order the pre-formed hoses because installing the hoses forces them each into a 'S' shape that closes off the gas flow.
I don't think it has anything to do with suction. Normal gas line can be successfully used at the rear where the bends are more gentle.
