I was driving home today in my 82 crossfire and started to smell fire! I looked under my car and saw what looked like fumes coming from the exhaust pipes. Not at the end of the pipes but towards the middle. It looked blurry. Any ideas?
The "blurry" look is just normal heat coming off a hot exhaust.
Piece of something stuck on the exhaust you would see smoke.
Yes you need to track it down-look around the engine bay around the exhaust manifolds look for any wires etc that may be too close to start.
Hi 82,
Maybe something like oil, coolant, brake fluid, or transmission fluid, dripping on the pipe?
You'd smell a burning odor and see the 'heat blur'. What's in the vicinity of the 'blur' ?
Regards,
Alan
Hey guys so good news I've driven my car twice today and no fire smell! I'm hoping it was just something stuck to my exhaust and that it doesn't come back. But if it does come back I will look into these things and have them check. Thanks for all your advice I very much appreciate it!!
