Default 1977 heater core replacement. (Wrong dimensions)

So this week my replacement heater core came in. I got the car all apart way quicker than I thought. (Most write ups put disassembly well over an hour lol). Well after getting the core out of the casing and attempting to put the new on in I ran into an issue. The new core is totally incorrect. The core it self is ~1/2 too thin. Also the lines are too close and dont line up to their seats. On top of this I can not use the clamps to hold it down. Due to the size difference as well as the one edge covering the screw hole that holds the clamp down.

What replacment do yall use? Why do they even advertise the damn thing as a replacement if it's 100% incorrect?

I went through the same thing many years ago. I bought mine from a local parts store and the dimensions were different. I made mine work somehow but I had to alter things. I'm sorry that i can't steer you to one that is correct.

Yea I am in the process of making mine work. I got it mostly there and then I couldn't get the clamp to hold the pipes correctly. Pretty much the last thing I have to alter.

Same thing happened to me over Memorial Day, really ticked me off. Bought it from a "reputable" vendor and would have returned it but I had a whole three day weekend to devote to that job and didn't want to delay it. So I fabricated a couple of straps out of aluminum strips and then kept the originals with the old core. My core looked pretty good and I was really tempted to just put it back but didn't....

Yeah I modified the casing to work. Just need some foam to take up what is now open space. Not the end of the world I guess. Just wish when I paid ANY amount of money for something, it was correct. I feel that every time I order something I need plan on modifying it to work.

You can't get those USA-made these days. In fact when I did that job six years ago the USA Delco unit (when it was available) did not fit properly and failed in less than five years. The Mexico version from Corvette Central worked perfectly last year. China? I do not know.

My brother in law put one in his C4 and it failed 6 months later. Buyer beware when it comes to heater cores made in China etc.
