Yesterday while driving my 70 LT1 it started makeing a sqweaking almost squealing noise from the front of the engine. It would become more pronounced as the RPMs went up. Then after twenty minutes of this when I stepped on the accelerator the motor would only rev for a second and then start to quit. Does this sound like a fan clutch, or water pump or fuel pump? The temp never got over 200 but it was warmer than in the past.
Could be anything with a bearing up front. If it does it at idle, you may want to remove the belts and crank the engine.
You can run it for a few minutes without hurting anything. If the noise stops, put one belt on at a time to determine what
parts it may be. When you have it narrowed down, to probably the water pump and fan, you can remove the fan from the
front of the pump. If it still does it,,, water pump bearing is bad. .. Hope it is that easy. :smash:
That's wierd because it looses power, that's a tough one but I would say that the alternator's bearing are gone, and with heat they might make it worst, therefore maing it loose power when reved. Just try it with the lights on and see what kind of power they have.

I would definitely check the fuel pump - which is simple: disconnect fuel line, hold the end in an empty bottle and crank engine with a starter.
Or: After engine dies, refill the fuel well of the carb through the vent tube and restart. If it starts then, the fuel pump does not deliver enough fuel.
"Then after twenty minutes of this when I stepped on the accelerator the motor would only rev for a second and then start to quit. "
I might have miss read this statement, I thought that the squeal would quit... now as I re-read it, it sound like you are saying that the engine will quit.
Then I vote Fuel Pump as well... My 73 is not making a squealing, but after driving in hot weather for about 20 minutes, it goes into like a vapor lock... As long as I idle or cruise less than 30, it is OK but press on the gas any more and it dies in a gasp...
This started last Saturday so I have not had time to isolate... you know, work and all..
It runs OK when I let it sit for about 30 minutes and then can run it mormally.
I was going to put an insulator over the fuel line to see if it helped before I replaced the fuel pump. I replaced the Fuel pump about a year ago and it was actually a crimped rubber hose at the pump. Did not like replacing it then either.... Good luck
