When I turn the key to the on position, I get lights, buzzers, etc. When I turn the key to start, nothing happens. I connected a remote starter button to the starter, and the starter works. I jumped the safety switch on the clutch pedal, but that didn't help. I've been studying diagrams. Is the ignition switch the only other piece inline? This is on a 1977 that has been sitting for a long time.

MAKE SURE that your battery cable are CLEAN and TIGHT at the battery. I can not tell you how many times I have repaired issues like this due to corrosion and loose cable ends. Do not take it for granted and 'think' they they both are OK. And for some odd reason if some BOZO cut the ends of the cables and installed the replacement repair ends...this is where you can have a big problem also. If the cables are loose in the replacement end...this is NOT GOOD.
You have to verify if you are getting battery voltage at the clutch safety switch when you turn the key. That will tell you that you are getting battery voltage from the ignition switch when it is turned.
Then you can disconnect the purple wire from the solenoid and see if it getting battery voltage when you turn the key...even if you still choose to 'jump' the connector...and HOPEFULLY you are using the SAME A GAUGE WIRE as a jumper due to the current load the starter is needing.
lastly...disconnect your NEGATIVE battery cable...REMOVE the positive battery cable and wires at the solenoid and VERIFY that the large stud that these wires were attached to is TIGHT....because the jamb nut can get loose and cause the solenoid not to work...but yet...you remoter starter will due to you are 'jumping' it externally....and NOT using the internal components of the solenoid. I have encountered this many times....the cable seems tight until I remove it and the stud will wiggle quite a lot.
