You'll alway have a few plug wires getting close and the starter should have some type of heat shield along with automatic transmission cooling lines in that area. Manual trans rarely will have clearance problems with Z bars but in rare cases, the pedal adjustment might hit a pipe. The you have to flip the rod from one side to the other of the Z bar or cut a little off the pedal adjustment threads.

I've got the Hooker Competition headers on my '81. Other than the issues mentioned by hugie82 they fit perfectly. I didn't have to dent or grind on any tubes for clearance issues. I am extremely happy with the fit.
