HELP! Strange oil leak question
Is it normal to leak oil out of the bolt hole on the front of the block (right in front of the fuel pump)? It looks like it is coming out of the upper hole, the one right in line with the fuel pump rod.
Also, is it bad when my fuel guage needle jumps from 0 to 5-7 when the car is idiling? This is with a Holley 750 and a stock fuel pump (with the return line hooked up).

I can leak there but it shouldn't. As for the fuel pressure, it can fluctuate but it shouldn't range all the way to zero.

That upper bolt hole is open to the fuel pump pushrod cavity. It needs to be plugged with a short bolt coated with thread sealant. "Short" is the operative word here. If the bolt is too long it will interfere with the fuel pump pushrod. And that's the basis of a trick you can use to retain your fuel pump pushrod if you should ever have to change your pump--just remove the short bolt and twist in a longer one.
