Default '69 wiper door repair

Pretty unique problem that i need some help/advice on. When I got my car it was a mess and I was less informed. The wiper door was in the passenger seat with all the tiny screws snapped off and bubba repairs attempted.

What I ended up doing was drilling the damaged areas and restoring it wih 5/16 aluminum bolts that I subsequently cut off, thus leaving a nice solid surface. Silly me, I figured I could re-drill the door precisely and be fine. WRONG! when I got it all back together it was off, not much, but enough that I realized I needed help.

Is there anyone out there that has a jig and the ability to do this properly? I would be willing to send it out, but is it worth it? Can you still buy the door new or repop? All advice is greatly appreciated!

Hans

they dont repop any thing for the 68-72 wiper door setup. you can look and try to find an original part or parts, they generally go for around 500 for the door and linkage.

There is at least one vendor that has a jig (can't remember who) I believe it was $60.
You'd want to let them know what you tried and get their thoughts on whether your door can be saved.

That's what I need. Anyone out there have a name or a geographical location? Worst case I can leave it, it's just barely off (tilted back 1/8 inch) and it works fine, but I'm getting it painted soon and want it fixed!

There have been a number of discussions here on this subject. If you do a CF search, you should find a CF member that has a write-up on how to do it yourself, and the name(s) of repair vendors.

Good Luck.

Hi Hans,
Have you tried to get the 'tilt' you need by using the 'stop' screw and pad?
If you run out of adjustment on the screw you may need to shave or shim the pad.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Ah ha, it's been so long since I re-assembled it, I forgot about them completely! I'll give it a shot, thanks!

Found the one I was thinking of, hopefully Alan has your fix and you won't need this. I see the cost went up a little too.

Just type in wiper door repair where it says Desc over at the upper left of the page.

Hi DZ,
$69 is still a good price if it saves the door.
Even with shipping added it's worth it.

Alan

I thought so, Alan. Still hope your fix is all he needs though.

I sent my 70 door off to Paragon to have the two broken bolt studs removed and the threads repaired. After sending the door off to Paragon, I went to J&D Corvette to get a used door. They had about 50 used doors in stock. I went through them all, everyone either had a broken off bolt stud, or damage from a collision. When I picked up the second from the last for inspection..it was perfect!!! I bought it.
