Default Stroker emissions questions

I've been considering stroking my ZZ3 up to a 383, but I'd like to know if the extra CID will result in an increase in the amount of emissions. The car is an '80, and must meet Texas' new standards, so there's no room for guesswork. The car meets last year's standards, but as I mentioned, they're more stringent this year.
I plan on retaining my Twisted Wedge heads (circa '95) and my ZZ3 roller cam for emissions reasons, with the hope that the extra cubes will provide the power increase I'm looking for.
I'd welcome any input from those of you with stroker or emissions expertise.

You should be OK. Are the standards diff for a 454 than a 350? If not, then why wouldn't a 383 pass the same emmissions as a 454 if set up properly?

I dont know where a 454 enters into this equation - it certainly was never allowed in an '80.

As to whether the 383 will create more emissions - it seems to me that if you burn more fuel (a natural consequence of increased displacement) then you could certainly expect increased emissions.

The real question is to whether or not, through judicious selection of componants if you could maintain legality. I dont know anything about Texas' new standards, or their old ones for that matter  however if I use Californias standards this wouldnt technically be legal, but I know of no way they could detect increaded displacement so that is a moot point.

Your biggest issue will be to select the proper cam, in your case using a low duration hydraulic roller (roller so you can take advantage of much higher lift and faster opening closing speeds, thus allowing you to run a shorter duration for a similar power output - to some degree) might be of some assistance. smallish heads in antake to provide for a fast efficient engine, will limt your power to some degree but will still allow for superior torque.

I would talk with the cam manufacturers - all of them and tell them what you intend, they should be able to help - then get back on the forum with their reccomendations and have the real cam experts  chime in with their opinion. I would say it is possible yes - cheap - probably not as cheap as a good hipo 350 rebuild.

Worth doing - almost certainly. :yesnod:

Now I read your post again and you have already decided on cam and heads - which are two of the biggest ways of controlling your emissions - I would say just stroking it out with no other changes would increase your emissions. how much I couldnt say.

Aren't emmission standards uniform meaning it doesn't matter what car/truck you have or engine, they all have to pass the same standards? I believe there where trucks available in 80 witth 454. If so then if a 454 can pass then a 383 can if set up properly which is well outlined in your post.

Nope, not true...Truck emissions standards are far more lenient than automobile standards - they measure all the same componants (Nox, Co2 etc...) but the levels are far less restrictive.
